Lyca Gairanod to sing for Pope Francis
“The Voice Kids” champ Lyca Gairanod is among those picked to perform for Pope Francis during his visit this week.
Gairanod is tasked to sing “Tell The World Of His Love” at the World Meeting of Families event to be held at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City on Jan. 16.
The 10-year-old singer is elated over the opportunity.
“Naging masaya po ako nu’n (sinabi na kakanta ako). Sabi ko, ‘Hay, salamat! Naging totoo na ’yung wish ko na makakapunta na ako kay Pope Francis,” she said on “Bandila.”
Gairanod hopes to personally ask the blessing of the Holy Father for her family, specifically “para malayo sila sa sakit.”
Gairanod also wishes to have a selfie with His Holiness.
“Tell The World Of His Love,” composed by Trina Belamide and covered by Jamie Rivera for one of her albums, was the official theme song of the 1995 World Youth Day attended by Saint John Paul II.
Incidentally, Rivera will be present the World Meeting of Families event to sing this year’s theme song, “We Are All God’s Children.” In an earlier interview with Bulletin Entertainment, Rivera shared her hopes of speaking with the pope and perhaps give him a copy of her CDs.
“I’ll just thank him for visiting us, for visiting us in peace – because he traveled across the seas. (I want) to tell him that we’re praying for him and for him to also pray for us,” she said, adding, “And maybe I would whisper, ‘Please pray for my family.’”
Rivera is scheduled to attend the Meeting with the Youth event at the University of Santo Tomas (UST) on Jan. 18.
