FilAmFest Marking Milestone by Celebrating 10 Years

Saturday, October 4, 2014 8:00 am to 7:00 pm

This upcoming October will mark a milestone for the Filipino American Arts and Culture Festival, as they will be celebrating their 10th annual festival. Widely known as FilAmFest, this festival aims to promote and celebrate the Filipino American identity with the San Diego community. This free family-friendly event will be held on October 4, 2014 on Paradise Valley Road between Woodman Street and Gilmartin Road in San Diego.

This year, FilAmFest is introducing their theme as “Halo-Halo: A Mix of All Good Things,” as an analogy to represent the rich diversity of cultures and identities found in Filipino and Filipino American communities. “Halo-halo” is literally translated from the Filipino language to mean “mix-mix” and is a frozen shaved ice dessert layered with fruits, beans and more. The diversity of the Filipino and Filipino American is a “mix-mix” stemming from the many regions and languages found in the Philippines.

Festival attendees will have much to look forward to in observing and learning about the diversity of the Filipino culture through many of the cultural programs and performances at FilAmFest. At FilAmFest, attendees can attend the cultural performances including groups such as Samahan Dance Company, BIBAK, PASACAT, and much more as they demonstrate music and dances from the different regions and cultures of the Philippines.

For the past 10 years, FilAmFest has worked with the San Diego community to showcase Filipino American culture, as well as continue to give back to the community that has supported us throughout the years.

With the support from volunteers and the community, FilAmFest is able to continue to thrive as one of the largest arts and culture festivals in San Diego. As we celebrate 10 years, we look forward to many more years of sharing the Filipino American culture with the San Diego community.
