Maverick Ahanmisi and Rod Ebondo came through in the clutch as CaféFrance needed another overtime session to escape past AMA University, 74-68, in the PBA D-League Aspirants’ Cup yesterday at the JCSGO gym in Cubao, Quezon City.

Ahanmisi forced an extra period when he tied the game at 62-all with a three-pointer with 10.9 seconds left before Ebondo starred in the Bakers’ 7-0 run during the extension to foil the upset bid of the Titans.

Ebondo finished with 18 points, 10 rebounds and three blocks while Ahanmisi added 17 points and 12 boards for CaféFrance, which improved to 8-2 with one game left in the elimination round.

The Bakers had earlier secured the first twice-to-beat incentive in the quarterfinals with a 67-62 win over the Cebuana Lhuillier Gems last Thursday.

“The good thing about this game is the character of the team. Malaking factor yung samahan ng team kasi di sila nag-give up,” said CafeFrance coach Egay Macaraya.

“That’s the lesson we learned today yung character ng team, matibay na.”

Centro Escolar University standout and NAASCU Most Valuable Player Samboy De Leon also scattered 14 points and nine rebounds.

James Martinez led the Titans with 23 points.
