Boots, King to meet the Pope
Boots Anson-Roa and husband King Rodrigo are very excited over their role in the meeting of families during the much-anticipated visit of Pope Francis at the SM Mall of Asia Arena.
In an interview with “TV Patrol,” King shared he will read a special message for the Pope on behalf of all the families present at the event.
“There is elation tapos halo-halo na ’yung nararamdaman ko,” King said.
King’s mother, Remedios Enriquez Rodrigo, has also been chosen by Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) president Archbishop Socrates B. Villegas to present a garland to Pope Francis in welcoming the pontiff.
“She was just recovering from pneumonia but she is well now. I think she will be in wheelchair to go there,” he shared.
She will be joined by two of her 47 great grandchildren and by Bishop Gabriel Reyes, chairman of the CBCP’s Episcopal Commission on Family and Life. The welcome party consists of 100 selected families from each of the country’s 86 archdioceses, dioceses, and prelatures.
Boots considers meeting the Pope an advance birthday gift. She will celebrate her 70th birthday on Jan. 30.
“Pangalawang beses na namin makakakita ng Pope. Kasi nahirang din kami dati to be the audience of Pope John Paul II nu’ng bumisita siya nu’ng 1981,” she said.
Boots believes they were chosen because they have a mission for the people. “Naniniwala akong meron kaming magandang halimbawa na dapat ibigay sa mga tao,” she said.
Boots calls on Filipinos to continue praying for the success of Pope Francis’ visit to the country, which starts on Jan.15.
“Kasi he is the conduit of Jesus,” she said.
