MANILA, Philippines – To assure his multitude of fans and friends that he’s in a better condition, ace comedian Dolphy decided to appear in a video and gave a short message about his health.
“Sa mga kapwa ko artista at kasama sa industriya, sa aking mga kapamilya, mga kapatid, mga kaibigan at sa mga sumusuporta sa akin, gusto ko pong magpasalamat sa patuloy ninyong pagdarasal na higit na nagpapalakas sa akin ngayon,” Dolphy said in a video message aired on “TV Patrol,” April 2.
“Gustung-gusto ko kayong makapiling pero nagpapalakas pa ako ngayon. ‘Wag kayong mag-alala, I’m okay,” he added.
The ace comedian even managed to crack a joke.
“Ito po si Dolphy. Hindi po ako dobol,” he said.
In his last message, he expressed his appreciation for all his supporters.
“I love you all. Mwah!”
Nene Riego, columnist, family friend and spokesperson for the Quizon family, shared that she misses the old days when she and the comedian would spend time together on special occasions.
“Nami-miss ko na din siya, eh. Christmas eve noong nandoon kami. New Year’s eve nandoon kami. Tapos ‘yung birthday niya. Nawala na lahat ‘yon,” Riego shared.
Riego explained that even Dolphy’s long-time friends were not encouraged to visit the comedian, who will turn 84 in July.
“Hindi mo madalaw kasi natatakot ka. ‘Pagka nahawa baka sabihin ‘ako pa ang nagdala ng virus,’ di ba?”
Meanwhile, singer Zsa Zsa Padilla is glad that Dolphy’s health is showing signs of improvement
“With God’s grace I hope that this streak continues, na sana tuloy-tuloy na. Nasa bahay lang kami para talagang nagpapalakas siya. He’s being taken care of at home,” the singer shared on “24 Oras” also on April 2.
She related that the ace comedian now has an increased appetite. In fact, he is already refusing to take food through his nose.
“There was even a time na gusto siyang i-NGT. Ayaw niya talaga. Alam mo naman ‘yung mga…’yung pagkain idadaan sa ilong. Sabi niya, ‘Ayaw ko ‘yan, ayaw ko ‘yan!’ Sabi ko, ‘Lovey, you really have to force yourself to eat.’ And he did,” she said.
The singer is amazed at Dolphy’s fighting spirit and will to live.
“Despite the fact that he’s had so many pneumonias the past years, ang dami. Parang any other normal person, I think, could not battle the kind of, you know, the number of pneumonias he’s had in his lifetime but he is very strong willed.”
For now, Zsa Zsa has opened her home to the comedian’s relatives.
“Lahat kami kapag may free time, I have opened my home to kung sino ang gustong magbantay, kung sino ang may time. Right now, ngayon, kauuwi lang ng isang anak niya from the US so nagbabantay siya. So we take turns.”
Zsa Zsa is busy shooting a musical, “I Do Bidoo Bidoo,” where she stars with Gary Valenciano, Eugene Domingo and Ogie Alcasid. It is something that has given her much excitement.
“The mere fact that this is a musical is a dream project, based on the music of APO,” she quipped. “So it’s a project na parang kung mabalitaan ko at hindi ako kasali, ‘bakit hindi ako kasali?’
