Boy Abunda urges Pinoys to pray this Holy Week

MANILA, Philippines – For King of Talk Boy Abunda, Holy Week ought to be, first and foremost, a time to renew and strengthen one’s ties with the Creator.
While many people, celebs included, are already on their way to—or gearing up for—their respective, enviable summer destinations for a much-needed R and R, Abunda calls to the millions of brothers and sisters in the Catholic faith to do a little introspection.
During the Palm Sunday episode of “The Buzz,” the veteran host mused that Pinoys should take advantage of this coming long weekend to reflect on and reassess their own lives.
“Technique lamang: It’s good to talk to yourself and to pray in the next few days. Talking to yourself, introspection (self-reflection),” he pointed out.
The “Buzz” host, who is also a Marian devotee, believes that the most important week in the Lenten season should not only allow one to repent, but also to personally evaluate the kind of life that he has led in the past year.
The best way to do this, according to Abunda, is to ask oneself certain questions that would reveal what one has done and has failed to do.
“The questions you basically ask, mga kaibigan, ay ‘Ano ang nangyari na sa aking buhay? What am I to other people, to my parents, to my community? And what am I to my God. Am I better than last year when I celebrated my Holy Week?’” he related.
After all, Abunda underscored that, “tayo lang ang makakapagsabi kung saan na tayo nakapunta sa ating buhay.”
While he wasn’t flatly against the Catholics opting to commemorate the sacred week quite “differently,” he pointed out that Holy Week has to be a “celebration” as well.
“It’s a celebration because we are reminded kung ano po ang sakripisyong ginawa po sa atin ng ating Panginoong Diyos para sa ating lahat,” Abunda said.
